or should I just sand blast and powder coat it?

  • I think Witcomb used to (don't know if they still do) and Mercian do restoration work.

  • i have a frame with witcomb at the moment. be warned, it takes time and it isn't cheap.

i like the tour of britain decals on this. it doesn't look really bad, you could clean it up yourself and touch-up.

  • hmm it is going to cost me an arm and a leg...

  • how do i get rid of all t he rust?

  • wet and dry sand paper than rattle can the black bits?

  • you have two choices:

    1. shot blast, powdercoat, el cheapo style, armortex, or even cheaper at car sprayer, anything between 40 and 100 quid.
    2. proper renovation, anything up to or above £200, depending on work involved.

bearing in mind that this is a geared frame as well, what do you want it for? dale gave me some good advice a few months ago, namely that it's not really worth respraying old stuff unless it's really fucked.

oh yes - and was going to add, the serious hernia-inducing hard work option, sand/rattlecan, etc. but this makes a bike look really shit.

  • how much was it? the only reason i ask is 'cos i got all itchy trigger today and bought this:

earlier today for 70 (seventy) pounds.

  • its going to be a fix...i guess I will decided once i get the frame... and you are right the frame doesn't look too bad..

  • 56 pounds... what size is your BJ?

  • my size. 59cm.

  • looking good... at least the paint job is still in good shape...

  • i couldn't believe it. i was the only bidder. (obviously the starting price was £70).

it ruined my resolve to not buy more bikes. and i have one for sale. i'm having an existential bike crisis.

  • haha... I know how you feel... Chris Crash told me the frame was worth about 50 ish... so I put 56 pounds on it a few days ago and came back from dinner today and got an e-mail to tell me to pay up...

  • i think the bob is worth more than i paid for it.

  • pj didn't you say you have got a bike being respray at the moment?

  • I am sure the bob is worth more...

  • well done! keeping the market buoyant.. ;-)

  • yes, a holdsworth zephyr. hopefully pick it up on tuesday.

  • well prav... you might see it on thursday... wife locked up all the bike.. but I still have allen keys and spanners to take off all the bits to put on the new frame. just hope the frame is straight

  • I googled a reference to a 1956 Viking Ian Steel model.
    hmm...

  • do tell

  • come on prav... you are killing me

  • all I found was that + this.
    do your own research!

  • i saw that... this one seems to be in much better condition...and it is in london
