Wanted: OT: Mac OSX 10.5 Installation Discs

Posted on
  • Ok.. so my macbook is playing up. Keeps having these lil kernel panics right in the middle of doing something.
The geek squad guys said i should do an archived reinstall to pretty much start again and see if it still happens.
Only problem is, i have lost my installation discs.

Anyone have a disc i can borrow in return for a beer or 3?

  • I'm not home until tomorrow evening but have 10.5 discs there. We could arrange a place to meet up on Monday if you like?

  • Hey, my Macbook Pro *OSX 10.5) is refusing to start up (a flashing folder with a question mark appears). I have consulted apple support and they suggest i use the installion discs to hopefully sort the problem. The only issue being I have lost the discs! So if anyone has some I can borrow, I will happily reward them with a six pack of something.

  • ^do what this man asks, or he will fuck you up.

  • PM me Hobo, I'll sort you out for nowt.

  • I know what you do to people that don't comply.

I don't want to be the bearer of bad vibes but the same thing happened to my macbook and it had to go in for repair. Turned out to be the hard drive it was completely fried ad had to be replaced. Hope you have better luck!

Yep, Casp's right, could well be. The icon means that the operating system can't be located. Most of the time you can get around this, but sometimes the HD's goosed. Better hope it's under a year old if so.

  • To be honest it is on its last legs anyway. The right hand fan conked out last week, the super drive doesn\t work and one of the USB's no longer recognise anything. Im trying to save at the moment so I am reluctant to buy a new one. But if mine has the same issues as yours i think im just going to bite the bullet and get a new one.

I have had since 05/06. It has lasted well having taken it around the world. But like im said I trying to be frugal at the moment.

  • It happened to two macs in the same fookin week for me.

  • If it doesn't have to be a laptop, East End Images is flogging a alright specced Mac Mini at the moment for a very decent price:

Bung a couple of gigs of RAM in it form crucial.com and it'll be good to go.

  • Thanks but I have one of those already which is currently being used as a media centre. My girlfriend needs a laptop to do some of her work away from home though. Not sure whether to get a macbbok pro or a regular MacBook. Does anyone know if there is any real world differences?

  • At the moment there's shit all difference between a white Macbook and a 13" MB Pro, except that the white Macbook actually has a bigger HD (250GB > 160GB).

If yo gal's a video monkey or a musician, bear in mind the white one doesn't have a firewire port at all.

Otherwise, it wins every time over the Pro. This'll all change in a couple of months when the new Pro's come out... keeping up with technology is an expensive business.
