  • I want to build up a fastish steel road bike. So far, I've looked at All City Mr Pink, All City Macho Man, Surly Pacer and TFG Wide Open.

Can anyone think of any other similar frames? Want to look at as many options as possible. Ideally budget would be around £500 for f+f if purchasing new.

Just a question - why not go for a carbon frame? If you're thinking of buying brand new, then that is pretty much the best way to go

Would come under budget for you - and can be future proof, should you choose electronic shifting.

  • It's a sad day

    RIP, served well

Genesis Equilibrium comes in around £470 for F&F. You can buy the frame separately for £330.

  • crash or fail?

    bulge in tt suggests crash

  • RIP

    Not necessarely RIP...

I had this repaired for instance...

Depends how attached you are to the frame...

These things scare me, like for my current project...Since the holdsworth snapped, I always have something at the back of my mind scaring me when riding an old bike... Like for instance the Witcomb I'm doing now, it's from the 60s presumably, it had some surface rust, pitting, although looking inside the tubes through the BB shell all looked pretty healthy... It does not stop me from riding the bike, but if I had one day to try something like l'eroica or a longish ride, I would be troubled by this...

... which could've been caused by failure.

  • Put in a really cheeky offer on the best condition DA 7600s phil_the_power had and got accepted, paid and dispatched in 12 hours! excellent service!

  • Aha sorry! I was allured by shinyness

  • He's a great seller. I got my NJS frame from him. Surprisingly quick delivery and really well packaged.

When I say future proof, I meant more like, will last for years, rather than stay current with technology.

I'm not really interested in having a shiny carbon frame. There's no class. I want class :-)

  • Then get the Genesis, they're brilliant bike.

  • This weekend I made my bike a tiny bit more rideable by putting a chain, pedals and saddle on it. I tried to use the amazing saddle I bought from Tommmmmetc last year but it's just too uncomfortable :(

I need a brake (actually I just need a lever, I have a brake, it's languishing in the living room) and some bar tape. I have a reflective owl though...

May have an Odyssey bmx lever upstairs, you're welcome to have it if I can find it.

  • the 44cm might be way too big for Jack.

More like too small, I normally ride a 62cm. It'd probably be too small for Jake too...

  • I wasn't really pointing it out to anyone but it's just a good price and anyone that size looking for a road frame should go for it.

    That would be grand, thanks!

  • And I bought a Moots, so might have to sell everything I have but we'll see...

Nice bikes! What moots did you get?

  • Operation Croix de Chrome begins.

    This:

    Plus:

    And also some window dressing:

Seat post is way too long, but I don't think it'll be a problem.

  • this appears to become a nice refreshment.
You got the clamp, or just buying it now?
trying to flog mine, silver 31.8 one...

  • Just ordered unfortunately. I need a 29.8 (I hope that's right!).
