  • recently banned on indoor 'dromes

  • Of course of they're running on 28C tires then sanding down the boards is the least of their worries

  • Guerilla- roll up a magazine/free newspaper, slide it between the rear wheel and the seat-tube.

    ...

    Remove newspaper.

You can do it like this...

Its possible to fit some bmx chain tensioners

    ...

thanks for these, I think the bmx tensioner was what I was after but ill try the other methods first

  • I am most likely one of the most indecisive individuals on here, so I'm looking for further advise.

Custom frame at some point in the near future, was thinking of going down the Nagasawa route, but am now tending more towards a Feather piece of design, think I might have to go for a road frame, which Nagasawa can do on special request, but can anyone give me a reason to go for him over Feather?

  • Feather.

  • I think so too, and his Rapha continental at Bespoked has convinced me even further, also I like the idea of supporting englandland

  • Is that giles-berthoud-whatever saddle?

  • Isn't the wait for a custom Nag 3 years or something silly? Eclipsed only by the 5 year wait of Vanilla.

I'd also be concerned about buying a road bike from a chap that only makes track bikes.

Those Feather bikes make look nice but Chas Roberts, Brian Rourke, Mercian etc... will have a much wider experience base and will ultimately build you a bike more suited to your needs.

  • No the Nag list is 4-5 months from Tokyo Fixed,

Feather won best road bike which shows he know what he's on about, his lug work all looks exceptional and unless we support new 'talent' then they will never become like mercian etc.

Theres a modern twist to his bikes that I really like, they don't look as old english as some of the ones you have mentioned, also Feather is a good deal cheaper than a Nag ;)

I'm with dov here - if I was buying a custom frame I would want someone with years and years of experience to decide on the geom/measurements for me. Rourke or Roberts ftw..

  • I would have thought that measurements where the easiest thing to pick up on, however I do think that the quality of frames will increase with experience in terms of brazing etc. but its not as if he can sell and craft expensive custom frames if they're shit!

    Anyone on here have/ridden one?

  • I've seen 3 or 4 in the steel, and they are beautifully made. I've seen them with skinny tubes, lugs and 1 inch threaded headsets, as well as oversize tubes, fillet brazed and 1 1/8th ahead.

They're made in York (shire) by a bmxer, I don't think quality or strength is something you need to worry about. One of my mates rode his into a car, forks bent badly but frame still straight and going strong.

I'd buy one if I had money to burn. Although the point presented re. Roberts or Rourke are that they've been fitting bikes for years, which is a bit of an art... I'm not sure if this is reason enough to discount Feather, just because they have more experience doesn't mean Feather isn't capable of building you a bike that fits right.

  • Yeah, i was thinking skinny tubbing, lugs, rad frame,

I spoke with him briefly on the phone, sounds like a nice guy

I may however get fitted through tokyo fixed, not sure yet though, do they take some commission?

True - but if I was going custom I'd want to keep it forever and that means I'd want the best/most experienced builder to measure me up.

I guess it depends if you want to buy one to look at / ride to lmnh ... or ride the shit out of it for 20 years. I would definitely be in the latter category.

  • It'd be a long ride to get to LMNH so I'd need a bike that fits.

  • :)

  • you could always open a Leeds Mum No Hands

  • "hark at this Mum.. no 'ands"

  • hahaha

  • Aye, ah tells thee, Leeds could reet do with a place like come see mam no ands...

I don't think there's a big enough (or close enough) cycling community to support it though, which is a shame.

  • There's a big enough cycling community, they all just hate each other ;)

Are Tokyo Fixed bike fitters now? FFS

    wac

  • Ha no, but they offer custom frames and are 'dealers' for Nagasawa, Feather and others do I guess they have to fit bikes, I think I'll go to feather direct though, which is what he sees keen on doing.

Also I will be riding the shit out of this bike, but looking at it too ;) but he built the road bike for rapha continental, and I guess they are sure to drag this bike through shone really tough rides, it's not like his bike are going to just fall apart from beneath you
