It's best to round down to the shorter spoke length IME.

After a month of searching I've got my hands on a CAAD9 bike with the BB30, should be with me by the weekend. It's going to be a good summer I can tell.

Hurray!

for you, maybe not. I think it looks great, and more importantly it will be a nicer ride than using components that are period to the frame.
absolutely - people are entitled to build their bikes however they like. Just an opinion.
IMO any mainly-black groupset will always look crap on a lugged frame - regardless of brand. But that's just an opinion...

Does anyone run a brake on El Toro bars?
somafab.com states: "Stem clamp diameter 26.0mm. Bar diameter 23.8mm, so MTB brake levers and shifters will not fit."looking for suggestions

Isn't 23.8mm the size of road bars etc? So any road levers that take your fancy...

Gazelle Mondial Track repainted in dark grey, dressed in full Dura Ace. The original red paint is still underneath so it will show where the grey chips off.
Still getting used to toe overlap. -

Replacing the Hainault? -

Replacing the Hainault?Yeah that was always the plan, the Badger was just to tie me over (post crash) until I got some money together for a modern machine.
I do feel kind of dirty upgrading to something which doesn't have a quill stem and has external BB cups, I'm sure they won't seem so futuristic given time. -

oh nice, like Columbus max. What group are you thinking?
-
• #57619
Can't afford much at the moment, but maybe Campag Chorus 1st Gen stuff. Always liked the look of that group.

-
• #57620
What is the size of that frame, looks kinda small.

As it happens I was looking at Campag Athena silver when I first started looking into a possible build, but I just don't like the Campag ergo levers, with their asymmetric shape, pointy hoods and fiddly looking thumb paddle thingies. Obviously Shimano was out of the question altogether, with their fugly cranks. If anything looks wrong on lugged steel it's those things. :-)
So I can sort of see where you're coming from, but to my eyes SRAM Force is the nicest looking set, and the hoods feel nice in my hands. Even thinking along the lines of retro-friendliness, I sort of figured you get a lot of black and white things on old steel bikes - black stems on Mosers, dark anodised rims, the classic black seat/white bar tape combo, etc. so I thought it was a nice mix.

It's 53cm seattube and 50cm toptube. Yeah small lo pro frames like this don't come about too often.

Surely a tasty 9spd Dura Ace 7700 group would be a worthy contender, or a 7400 for that matter, with DT Shifters.

Nah just didn't wanna say. The deal was in the balance so thought I'd keep my lips shut till now, I'm glad I got it :P

Soo.. First i realise there's a tool for removing crank arms (revelation, now have one) and now for chainring bolts?!?
There's a bit of movement in my chainring as i'm running 4/5 bolts and they're not done up as tightly as they probably should be.

Managed to build a working front wheel using the D521, 12mm nipples and the 262s on an M970 front even though edd said they'd be too short. I noticed later it doesn't say what length nipple its working it out for.
