I just collected my non stick pans that I got recoated. 3 pans for 100€, no idea if someone in the UK does that, but after 5 weeks with only stainless and cast iron I realised I really like non stick.

I've got a Meater+. It's decent as it stands (and is pretty much the only decent option in the UK for that style) but has some annoyances.
The food part of it can't be exposed to temperatures to more than 100 degrees so if you want to measure an oven/bbq temperature before cooking you need to stick it in a potato or something (and it needs to be quite a way in).
It's a lot fatter than a normal probe so need to be used in bigger cuts of meat, no good for chops or similar.
But, it's also shorter than other probes so if the cut is too big it can be difficult to get it into the centre.
Lots of reports that the external temperature reads a bit low as it's in a big hunk of cold meat, although I think that's only an issue if you want a really exact cooking temperature.
However, it is very convenient for the right piece of meat. No wires to get tangled up is great, the app is good, battery lasts ages and, with the plus at least, the bluetooth connection is solid.
Not sure if I'd want it as my only thermometer (I've got a Fireboard one that I got cheap off ebay with multiple probes and wi-fi) and I probably wouldn't pay full price for it but they are decent.

i never knew this was a thing! great idea if it works.

Thanks - this is useful - still torn. Mainly want something reliable for large chunks of meat in the face of an unreliable oven. Replacing the oven probably makes more sense in the long term but it's only 18 months old so perhaps a service before I ruin Christmas.

Seems to work.
Like new after years of use, but wouldn't work on induction probably as I managed to warp the thinner le creuset.
Also like the overspray look on the one that's coated outside.

Those look so nice.
Which one did you manage to warp - Does induction really get them that hot?

Lebkuchen. I've been doing early testing this season - Lidl and Aldi remain, despite their promise, lacklustre.
Oddly for texture and not soiling with apricot jam or chocolate, Sainsburys doing surprisingly well on the score board: https://www.sainsburys.co.uk/gol-ui/product/sainsburys-lebkuchen-stars-250g
Wicklein remain reliable:

Has anyone made them? I prefer Oblaten over Nuremberg.
Let's talk.

Both le creusets have a bit less than 5mm curve in the bottom.
I definitely did that on gas, bound to happen for me given enough time.
Curious to see if they will work on induction if I ever manage to move my pans to a modern kitchen.Edit, just learned that pans do that for a reason. Duh. Guess who didn't pay attention in school.
Way too much heat still helped kill the non stick I guess.
Have more non coated pans now anyway. -

What do you mean Oblaten over Nuremberg? Nuremberg have Oblaten.
The Nuremberg ones from Lidl is about as good as it gets in the UK although they should include the unglazed kind.

They have to be from Toruń and have Copernicus on the box.
That said I prefer Polish poppy seed cake or parkin.
the poppy seed stollen from Lidl is good. -
• #32845
Was a joke....as I could eat all those with lots of coffee.
To dip or not to dip. That is the question.

Used like the piernicki (Polish gingerbread cake traditional Christmas day cake) and katarnyki (ginger bread biscuits) from Safeway deli counter(that was a while ago), Polish friends loved them.
Never found out who the maker was.

As you can see it's in Germany, sorry.
Seems like a high tech coaters that saw an opportunity. Or they had pan coating customers move production abroad.Found one in the UK.
https://myolav.co.uk/products/recoatingHonestly, it's the most fun thing I paid for in the kitchen, makes so much sense.

• #32848
Ah that's only for their own pans?
But means there must be someone doing it. -
• #32849
Yeah I found that site but haven’t quite found a domestic provider…

Meater? Meater+? Other?
tbf i already have a thermapen so I absolutely don't need something - but feel opening the oven to check isn't the best.
