That's quite a generous budget for rims. Or are you after hubs, spokes and a wheel build too?
-
• #3
50 each ! They will be very posh rims !
DT swiss RR 1.1 are very good.
Mavic Open Pros are also very good.

Arrospok are 50 dorras.

yeah, thinking about it probably 30ish would be best. Ive heard the open pros are good. What about the open sports? Look the same to me anyway..
Yes it is just rims. Maybe Im a bit too posh!
Where can I look at the DT swiss ones?
Cheers

They are really not the same.
Check the mavic site and look at eyelets (lack of?), weight, suggested usage... -

..think I may be being a bit dense here, but whats the diff between single and double eyelet?

...on my front wheel at westie beers this PM. I may have one spare DT Swiss rim (do I Wayne??). Depending on your aesthetic sensibilities you may prefer an unmachined rear (also depends if you're riding SS or fixed).

open sports are alright but not really strong. i had the MA3 which is the older version of it (apart from the groove in the braking surface i dont see much difference between them 2) which got bent rather easily. open pros are much better, well worth the extra money when u can afford it.

what about some wooden rims?

Ambrosio Excellence - a bit more expensive than Open Pros but they are very strong and look good too (always important!).

Ah right, Ive got Ma3's on my geared bike and wondered if they were older sports. Seem ok for me just for weekend riding, but I may go for pros for my weekly commuter then if they are stronger. Ta

Go for Open Pros. There's a reason why everyone uses them: they're very good.

I'd keep it classy and go with Velocity Deep-V's or their look alikes (Wiennman DP18)

Deep V's are classy?
I'd go for Mavic CXP 33's. In fact, that's exactly what I did.

hahaha :)
I still don't get deep Vs. I don't think I ever will.

1.1's are great, open pros are also brilliant. The main reason Open Sports dont compare is that they are just a bit weak. (I folded one once stressing a wheel id just built!) But the best tip i can give is dont listen to scene twats like Dave Pickett.

"scene twats" you just made my day a little brighter

The difference between an Mavic Open Pro and a DT Swiss RR 1.1 is £10.
Is it worth spending the extra on the DT or is it just a brand thing?

strength. oh, and of course all the glorious colours of the hipster.

Have both. The Dt's are a little deeper section (and I think a little lighter) but I couldn't say there was any difference in 'feel'. The stickers look better on the DT's but they all fall off in the rain so...
Buy the best hubs you can afford and lace them 32f/32r with DT spokes. Who needs Krysiums? -

Already have the DA HF 36 hole hubs. Was going to go for the Open Pros anyway the DT's just stuck me in a 2 minute long period of indecision.
I'm over it now.

Hi,
I'm looking at getting some new rims. Ill be looking at 20-50pounds roughly each, so not expensive stuff. Its for short daily road trips.
Anyone reccomend any in particular?
cheers,
Tim
