I received this mail from British cycling, I've signed up to do it and they are looking for 50 riders to participate in the launch even on May 7th
The Real Man Cycling Challenge
Background to Event
The Real Man Cycling Challenge will be held on Sunday 14th September through London, with the aim of raising awareness of prostate cancer and vital funds for The Prostate Cancer Charity. Prostate cancer is the most
common cancer in men in the UK, one man dies from it every hour.
It will be the first corporate closed road cycling challenge to be held in London. 2000 cyclists, made up of 500 teams of 4 will take part in the event. The route will start and finish at Excel, Docklands and cyclists will follow a route based mainly around Canary Wharf.
Launch of Event
The launch of The Real Man Cycling Challenge will be held on Wednesday 7th May 2008 in Canary Wharf.
We are looking for cyclists who would be available to cycle around the main sites in London (please see routes attached) wearing Real Man Cycling Challenge Jerseys to promote the event.
We will ask you to arrive outside Evans Cycles in Canary Wharf (map attached) at 07.00am where will provide you with breakfast, coffee and your Real Man Cycling Jersey. You will then be split into 2 groups to cycle 2 pre-designed routes from Canary Wharf through London for approximately 45 mins to return to Canary Wharf for a photo-call. You will return for 8.45am for the photo-call to commence at 9.00am. This will include VIPs, sponsors and celebrities ambassadors of the event, such as Adrian Chiles, Neil Fox, Graeme Le Saux and Phil Liggett.
If you are available and you would like the chance to take part in the launch of The Real Man Cycling Challenge please contact Rory Badenoch or Grant Rowley on email@example.com / firstname.lastname@example.org or 020 7924 7214.
sounds awesome, unfortunately Ive never actually ridden a bike in london and am hoplessly unfit, so it would not be a moment of pride I think if I were to try and take part.
Would be well to see how a bunch of fixed commuters/messengers fair against a bunch of white collar/carbon fibre/roadie types.
So basically they're looking or free advertising? Not riders in the event.
Hi Mike, I work for the team that is oraganizing the Real Man Cycling Challenge on behalf of the Prostate Cancer Charity. We are certainly looking for individual cyclists and teams to take part in the event on September 14th. If you have any other queries about the event I would be more than happy to answer them.
