  • I have been using a pair of skinny h&m jeans for cycling since 2010 and the crotch still hasn't worn out. the pockets are completely gone, and I cut off the bottoms ages ago to make them 3/4 length as I knew I'd only use them for riding once they got tatty. never expected them to last this long.

    amazing longevity.

  • Does anyone else wear through (specifically the crotches of) jeans like there's no tomorrow? Unless it's a cycling kit, i'm almost always in jeans when i ride.

  • swrve jeans

  • If your saddle has stitching on the shoulders (like, say, a Charge Spoon), that will speed up the wear.
My old SLR Trans Am is making a bit of a fuzzy mess of my kit atm.

  • Don't wear jeans. Or if you do wear cheap ones that you don't particularly care about.

  • Yes me!

I've always thought its a combination of cycling and the fact that maybe I have small hips and my thighs rub together. I still like to buy decent jeans though. They just don't last that long.

  • ^^ M&S Jeans are excellent for this purpose! If you go for the £20 ones they last a few months and they have Lycra stretch.

  • I have Charge Bucket on 2 bikes, Brooks on another, and another with an unstitched one, so it can't be that. Been interested in M&S jeans, but so many old people in there and being used to H&M, which are the same price.

It's not about the love for the jeans, i killed my favourites, i was just wondering why it happens so much, and if others suffer from it.

  • Your balls are probably too big, you got big balls. I ride with various pairs of jeans and only feel comfortable in the ones that leave room for the two boys. Otherwise there is too much ball-to-saddle friction.

Just come out of a sexless relationship, my balls are like raisins now.

great hussle tom! repped x 3

OP what about some second hand Levis of the Ebay for riding? cheap and better quality that M n S no?

  • (:

and uniqlo jeans are the one for riding in, about £29 iirc and lasted me the shit spring without ripping where all my other jeans have

  • Use jeans that stretch/have lycra in, cut into shorts is even better, don't use wide saddles like rolls or turbo, don't use taped up or ripped saddles, I have not worn through jeans for about a year now and all my jeans show very little signs of wear, I used to wear through jeans in a few months.

Stretchy ones from Topman are actually pretty good, not to skinny either

  • My Levi 511 have little signs of wear and they're probably 7 months old or so and have been ridden pretty hard. I've worn through topman jeans in the space of 2 months before, same with those happy Monday jeans from urban outfitters.

Thankyou for clarifying that, i never knew. And yes it sort of is, without me going into details of my sex life.

Topman are far too expensive considering the extreme decline in quality. I used to only wear theirs, but they so badly made now... All my jeans are stretchy fit, and are cut to shorts. All saddles are wide, but in good condition and have no point of rub.

  • I only wear the stretchy ones from there, to lazy to find others.

I got a bit..... chubby, have to find the right size now. But always in skinnies, i used to bmx for over a decade before i found fixed.

I mostly had a problem with a Turbo, constant rub, not so bad with a rolls though

  • Stop being "hipsters" and wear lycra instead....

As i said in my first post, i ride in kit, but only if i do a serious ride. I do some milage just going to see mates, or women, or even boredom. It all ads up. Not kitting up that much, i can't wash it fast enough!

  • More about practicality than being hipster, wearing lycra can be very impractical...

  • I do some milage just going to see mates

find one of those mates who has a sewing machine, take them beer & get them to sew a patch on from an old pair of jeans.. & when that wears out go see them again..

  • hmm, mine wear out in the sitbone area, not the crotch.
I have a pair of uniqlo chino type trousers that are still going strong after 2 years of cycling in them at least 3 days/week. My swrve jeans are looking knackered after 3 months of riding, although no rips yet.
