  • Well, I think under the re-design I may just remove them altogether just leaving the comments along side posts and the private messages.

  • cool

  • Sorry seems to be the hardest word.

  • The blogs have now been disabled. If anyone spots any mention of them let me know as I might not have nuked all of the links.

    There's one ^^

  • Yeah yeah, I just knew there would be a smart arse response to that. In the code dagnammit, in the code!

  • hippy's always speaking in code.

You should've banned me on nye like I asked :)

  • Yeah, but that would've driven you nuts... just before your 20k mark too.

Oh, I've changed a whole load of URL's around the social group things. Apologies for that, they won't be changing again... that was basically why I changed them, so that they need never change again.

  • Have you changed the page formatting so it's fixed width?

  • Ignore my last. Seems it was temporary.

  • We were looking at it last night. Thinking of doing it to improve readability by making the width of the post area be the width of whatever research says the most comfortable/optimal words per line is.

  • can you change it so it reads how many new unread posts are in a thread vs total?

That's usually quite narrow for most people. Could options be available to keep it as wide as it is? It's just that for me that's the most comfortable layout, as I'm hyperlexic.

One thing that I would find helpful would be if the text didn't wrap off-screen to the width of massive images that are sometimes posted but kept to the width of the screen, even if the image wasn't re-sized.

Hmm, that could be done I think.

The new design won't have too many options. If we find that we can deliver a fixed width design based upon research based optimal words per line and a grid system and allow it to degrade elegantly on smaller screens... then we will. If we find we can't, then we won't.

What there won't be is options for every little thing under the sun. The WWW already allows you the user to override anything we do, it is possible to use a user defined style sheet to make any site look any way you wish.

We'll make both the old and new styles available for quite a while, but we aren't going to be holy about making the new design re-produce the existing design... it's a fresh working space and we're going to aim for highest general usability even at the expense of some very specific preferences.

  • Can we all change our names to something that sounds like a low-end Campag groupset?

  • You should allow (for a fee) Campag to use your user name as a low end, robust, hardworking groupset. In years to come it could be worth as much as you.

  • I've changed all of the video embedding code.

At the moment I've got a script going over old posts and updating them. But I'm not going to update every post as there are more than half a million of them, so instead I'm just doing the last few months.

If you have old posts that you had a link to vimeo, youtube, etc in... just edit it (you don't have to change anything, just click edit and then save) to update it.

This change should mean that we now have about 120 video sites enabled rather than about 10.

  • In theory it finished fixing all of the video. And it's gone back to year zero too. Let me know if something is not working.

  • Fatal error: Call to a member function set_existing() on a non-object in /home/buro9/public_html/londonfgss.com/public/group.php on line **3985

Got this when adding a couple of users to the Closet Roadie group.

It's obvious that this was caused by the clash of being in the closet and being forced to become public.

  • I've had to rename all of the spotted threads so that the non-London ones state where they apply to.

Apologies for doing this, but the thread titles were confusing as it's not always apparent where a thread lives, especially in things like RSS feeds where the title is absent altogether.

I no longer own London. I want to own London.

  • was it just me or did the site just go awol for a few minutes due to "unsupported compression methods"

  • Yeah, that was me pissing around.

Anyhow... another really subtle change for Firefox users predominantly (but they are the majority of people on the site)...

Search. You know that drop down search box on the top right hand side of the Firefox window? Well, whilst you're on the site go and drop it down. Notice any difference?
