After a quick rummage on the intermeweb, it looks like they set up the course in the early morning on the day of the race. So either we could go do a night ride without the barriers or a crack-of-dawn job on the course proper....

this sounds like fun, guerilla riding, count me in if I can wake up of course,
-
• #7
I am so up for this... Early morning would be the look as I guess all of the traffic would be blocked off.
-
• #8
you're right this sounds like a lot of fun, what time do they close the roads? the race starts at what 10am? So surely it would take a while to setup - giving us plenty of time to get round in theory.
-
• #9
Vehicle removal starts at 7.00am, so by that time it should be pretty clear.
-
• #10
i severely severly doubt you would make it along the whole route without getting told off by mr plod.
-
• #11
if the race starts at ten, then we should start at what 930? 945? they will never catch up to us, we have bikes
-
• #12
I reckon start for 7
-
• #13
or we could ride just in front of the motorcade.. ;-)
-
• #14
what the hell, let's wait by tower bridge for the wheelchairs and all spin down together
-
• #15
chris crash if the race starts at ten, then we should start at what 930? 945? they will never catch up to us, we have bikes
but they have radio's and about 200 plods on the course. actually very easy to stop you. it's the worlds most prestigious marathon, that they want to go without a hitch. -
• #16
dogs, I was down there when my old man ran it a few years ago and saw a few bikes out there before the race started. nobody was stopping them. they were too busy with the barriers and crowd crossings etc.

Is it true that the course for the Marathon gets set up the night before? If so, does anyone fancy a night ride along the route? Marathon Day is 13th April
