  • My dad just got given this bike. Not sure what brand the frame is, there's an S&M sticker on the front but they're a BMX company.
I gather reynolds 501 is the lower budget version of 531. What's the Shimano 105 groupset like? Apparently all the bearings are super-smooooth.
You guys think it would make a good fixed/ss conversion? Cos I might get him to send it down if it's worth it.

  • 501 is heavy as fook (unless it's hand built, in which case it could be quite nice, but doubtful)

someone's upgraded the running gear to 105 at some point by the look of it.

it would be a good bike to convert, as these old heavy things take on a new life when the weight is stripped off and they are fixed.

  • 501 is ok, 105 is also ok. I would personally keep it as a geared bike, but that's just because i want a geared bike to ride to paris-roubaix this year. It'd make a good beater.

  • ss conversion, match the chain to bar tape and sell it on ebay for 200 squids

  • paint it white, risers, arrospok then give yourself a street name and some attitude, you'll be ready to fake with the best of 'em.

  • chris crash ss conversion, match the chain to bar tape and sell it on ebay for 200 squids

Also take off 1 brake, even though you had 2 perfectly good ones. Will make it sell quicker.

    hahahahaha!

maybe i'll get the chain for now, then upgrade to arrospokk when i wanna be realllllly cool.

i'll see you in court, asshole.

  • its a nice bike as is, but also would be an easy conversion.. only new brake levers may be necessary?
strip off the gearie bits + BMX levers. done. get it down - n+1 etc..

yeah. that's what i was thinking.
    n+1???

apparently it's in really good condition, it's just covered in dust and dirt and been sitting in someone's garage for a while.

anyone know the best (and cheapest) place to get it shipped?

  • to me ;)

  • Check that Play Clothing sticker out... Hal Brindley up in this motherfucker!

  • who are play clothing anyway?

  • n+1 = the number of bikes you want to own, n being the number of bikes you already own.
