  • Yeah, I saw those. Too small, too posh.

  • Oh, and you get more for your money buying British-made speakers, otherwise half the cost is for air-freighting a big wooden box of air halfway across the world.

    Maybe SHAMELESS

  • Yeah, I saw those. Too small, too posh.

Go to argos and buy a "midi system" then

  • Argos! Brilliant idea. Cheers :)

  • i have a pair in zebrano wood. they do need a few watts though as they are not that sensitive (not a problem if you aren't shaking the walls)

  • Just for some context, the speakers I'm replacing came from Oxfam and probably cost me £20.

The amp I have is only 50W/ch. A Denon something.. PMC 350 I think.

  • That's like someone starting a thread over a create bike or something

  • i was going to suggest merging this with the hi-fi thread but your equipment is just a stereo not 'high fidelity' audio equipment.

Lucky I didn't start the thread, eh?

It is just a stereo, yes, but it's a stereo lacking a speaker so it's a bit of a mono at the moment, hence looking for new speakers.

  • Don't start splitting hairs now you've asked a question and don't like the answers, noob

  • No, I'm quite happy. I'm on Argos now..

  • "without paying stupid money for audiophile bollocks"

Also, it was you guys that somehow thought I meant £700 sets of speakers when in fact I just asked for louder speakers and a way to minimise noise to neighbours. If I wanted audiophile shit I would've posted in the other thread. Maybe you should take time to read the question properly. #argosftw

im offering you a pair of £1100 audiophile bollocks speakers for £325 that's not stupid money.

  • Oh, I did google them. Didn't realise you were shifting a set.
I'd actually emailed the seller of those units RPM posted asking about the stands.
Let me have another look at 'em.

  • But you don't get more for your money because production costs in Europe are higher.

For what, knocking a wooden box up with a bit of foam in it? The cabinets can be made by someone on £5 an hour at a rate of, say 10 an hour? labour charges ain't much. Now cones on the other hand cost lots to make, but Celestions are still made in Ipswich and still the best you can get.

Yeah, it's cheaper for a Chinese guy to make a box with foam in it.
How much are a set of Celestions?

Looks like Celestion are made overseas anyway. From their site:

"In addition, the manufacturing facility replicates the Ipswich test and listening facilities, incorporating its own hemi-anechoic chamber and acoustically neutral listening room, and industry-standard measurement equipment such as the Klippel® Distortion Analyser. This ensures the highest degree of accuracy and consistency from design inception right through to final manufacture. With warehousing facilities in Europe, China and on the east and west coasts of the US, Celestion customers enjoy efficient logistics and day-to-day contact with local account managers based in all major territories."

"Celestion is part of the Gold Peak group with an annual turnover of more than US $1 Billion."

Gold Peak Group* is an Asian multinational group

  • Meh, that can only have been very recently. They were still entirely Ipswich based not-so long ago.
My mum worked there back in the 70s. All the other speaker manufacturers bought their cones from Celestion.

edit: yep, set up the chinese plant in 2007. Apparently only the posh ones are still made in England.

just to avoid confusion i'm selling some PMC tb2 and have replaced them with a pair of the diminutive Leema xero's, mainly due to size.
the PMC's are great and any online review will say the same (as would a listen) just wanted something smaller.

I thought this was the audiophile thread, if you'd sort your shit out and show me the fucking thread titles then maybe I wouldn't get so confused.

Do you any stands to match them?

"Partington Super Dreadnoughts" have been mentioned. Great name.

I'm sure they are overkill for what I'd use them for. What amp were you using with them?

Your thread titles have been removed pending discussion with the web design team on the effectiveness of thread titles. When the studies have been conducted and results finalised we might let you have them back.
