Yep - could be that the volume pot needs a clean.

Went to Hornsey recycling centre today with some garden waste and look what I found:
Need to get some leads to try it - hoping its a MM phono stage. Always had a thing for old Quad kit so pretty chuffed to just find one.

It's full of Semtex.

Sweet lord, that's a nice find. Yes you need the funny DIN cables to try it unfortunately.

What's up with my JBL studio monitors? If I have them on very low volume one of them remains silent until I turn up the volume and - suddenly it starts working normally.
Sounds like a connection problem to me, check your cables

It was set nicely to the side when I found it so it had been put there with a new owner in mind! Got some banana plugs on the way so I can connect my speakers.
Fingers crossed its ok. I live just down the road from Audio Gold (vintage kit specialist) in Crouch End so it will be going there to be repaired if it has any problems.
The design reminds me of classic Dieter Rams Braun stuff

Right, I could do with a stand for my amp/deck, something not too ugly nor too pricey. Most of the stuff I've seen so far are pricey eyesores. If someone could point me in the right direction...

i find all media devoted furnishings to be eyesores frankly. i tend to re-appropriate something else for the task. useless post i know.

Yep, same here. If it's for a tt make sure it's nice and heavy and rigid.

Any suggestions for a radio alarm clock with good sound quality (i.e. something beyond Pure, Roberts, etc). Needs to have DAB and a remote control.
Tried googling but not finding much beyond the obvious.

Anyone else know of the little basement electrical repair/sales place on Lordship Lane? Wandered in there halfway though a run last week. Looked to have some sweet pieces of bargainous audio and some interesiting guitar amps. I intend to return on payday.

pls take a picture, of the guitar amps in particular.
I have a 'thing' for cool solid state amps like H/H, Peavey (teal stripe) and anything more unusual.

Something like wharfdale dovedale

Not audiophile at all but does anyone have recommendations for a wireless 5.1 setup?
On the smaller side for a flat, with the fronts not on stands (they'll go into a tv cabinet thing) or maybe just a soundbar front setup?
I also want a Blu-ray player so if you have opinions on those, feel free to deliver below..

My cassette deck broke the other day. Sad times. So today I bought this monster.
It's bloody amazing!

My work kindly gave me some Amazon vouchers for Christmas. Need a new DAB radio and am thinking of using the amazon vouchers plus £50 of my own cash to buy the Geneva World Radio. All the reviews are brilliant but was wondering if anyone on here had any experience. It's fucking pricey for a radio.

^^Sweet! Cassettes can sound great despite being a massive pain in the bollocks. Sony made some really good decks but the Nakamichi Dragon is meant to be the be-all and end-all of tape decks.

Treated myself to a new system after a couple of years without one...
Naim Uniti 2, B&W CM1 on Atacama stands with QED Silver Anniv cables - I absolutely adore it so far!

Oooooh jealous.
It does sound rather gorgeous!
More likely to be the amp than the speakers.
