Without the small print, it might be a euphemistic safer-sex promo

If the helmets were pointy, it could be triathlon in the 90s all over again

This just popped up as a FB ad. Rather than skim the last few pages on here, just gonna ask. Is this for real ??

Is this for real ?
"is designed to..." is code for "fingers crossed, but we haven't actually tested it yet"
-
• #7035
Expect it to look very different and be at least 6 months late after they have completely redesigned it after it fails certification tests, assuming that they don't go bankrupt first.

Also, 'meets cycling safety standards' (whether US or otherwise) has at very best only the loosest of relationships with 'will actually provide any degree of protection in a real-world situation'.

Speaking of unrealistic tests...

This one came up a while ago. Received some shit for using some very dubious stats https://www.lfgss.com/conversations/128549/?offset=6875#14433517
I imagine it will also look shit

Statements in the tweets are amazing.
It's like saying "This umbrella stopped me from getting soaked," while simultaneously being surprised at how little rain is on the umbrella.
-
• #7041
It just deflects the rain, just like a helmet deflects the damage. Capisce? :)

Local club generally very upset with BBC/Boardman at the weekend.

Heros.

I don't understand why a lots of cycling clubs now insist on wearing helmets, some club actually forbid their members to ride without it for insurance purpose on a club ride.

insurance purpose on a club ride

for insurance purpose
[citation needed]
If anybody tells you to wear a helmet "for insurance" in an event they're organising, ask to see the policy. -

Local club generally very upset with BBC/Boardman
Well, he was riding slowly on a road closed to motor traffic, the one situation for which helmets are tested and approved.

If anybody tells you to wear a helmet "for insurance".
Isington Cycle Club, for instance, required it for all club ride, which I am told by them that it's due to insurance.
I doubt they understand any of it.
Scheuer will have been lobbied by the helmet and road safety industry/-ies. The latter acts as a fig leaf for the former.
