Cool - Pacenti it is!!
Many thanks indeed! -

If the bike is shaking it might be a rim width issue. Ger a vernier out and measure or get the wheel in a truing jig you will see any defects.

Has this wheel been tried in another bike. I had pulsing once that turned out to be play in the brake caliper. The bike shook.

It's a novatec hub I forget the model name but the one with there steel freehub I think. could be decent.

This was it. I found a buldge at the seam like you suggest. The actual seam itself was smooth but the whole thing bulged out. I took some wet and dry paper to it and problem is much reduced this morning.
Not too impressed with Kinlin to be honest. That's 2 out of 3 that I've had with bulges in the brake tracks.

Do the decals come off do you know?
Checked this last night and realised the decals are etched on so can't be removed.

Any recommendations for 24mm wide 700c dis rims? 32 hole, light and strong for CX and commutes
-
• #5734
Not a complaint i get though. How big is this. I would surley pick it up when i build with them but i dont see bulging on the dial guages.
I would like to kmow what percentage of rims are effected.

Kinlin xr22rts, xr31rts, pacenti forza, dt swiss rr511, velocity aileron dt swis r460 dt swiss rr411 the later being the lightest.
Ryde have the pulse comp disc i have never ised these though. Wtb have rim i cant remember the name of. Stans have the grail. In short you can say 'Eenie, meenie, miney, moe', and just pick one. With a 32 spkke count they will all work just fine.
The aysmmetric rims though do provide a better rim as spoke life will be longer.

xr22 assymetric for the win.
Cheap, light, strong, superbly finished -

I never had bulging on any Kinlin rims that i bought from the UK distributor.
Bought a couple of XR31 on ebay, finish was different and the joints were terrible. Tension also was all over the place.
None of my customers complained about pulsing on the ones i've built .
Some of the old ,non - high end rims had pulse as far as i know. -
• #5738
I've had 3 from hunt now as complete wheels, and 1 from you. Out of those 4, 3 of them have pulsed under braking. I've checked one and found the bulge. I haven't had a chance to look at the others yet.
I can't blame my wheel building skills as 3 of them I didn't build.
Sanding the bulge has definitely improved it, but it's still there a little bit. I will attack it some more and hopefully it will be gone.
I run swissstop bhp pads on all my bikes, and the problem only happens with my XR31 rim's in any of my bikes.
The bulge was plain as day to see once I went looking for it.

What's the current recommendation for a relatively low priced 32 spoke double fixed wheel set with medium/wide rims? Have tb14s & archetypes on other bikes and while they're great, the price will make them a bit riskier on a bike is like to be able to lock up.

Pair of DT Swiss R460 laced to the condor track hubs currently on offer?

Cheers, that's looking like a pretty good build for the price!

I would love to know how big this bulge was. Do you have a vernier to measure one of the wheels. I checked a few rims today and found nothing. If there is a defect i would prefer to get the rim back otherwise i never see the problem.

If you work in Specialized R&D dept you can build gopping bikes like this but also get the next R4** series rims from DT Swiss to play with

Metrea 😞

Is that the new r460 then with an asymmetric rear.
-

Some Specialized Roubaix come with R 470 DBs. Doesn't seem like there is much difference to 460, though.

470 is OEM i think

The nipples on my Day One's rear wheel are a weird size. A red Park SW-2 spoke key (3.45mm) is too small but the Blue SW-3 (3.96mm) is too big.
I'm guessing I need something around 3.7-3.8mm.
Anyone know what 'guage' this would equate to?
Or even what system of 'guage' is used for spokes? There's a Topeak key that says it's 13G/4.3mm but standard wire guage 13 is less than 2mm.
Do i just have to buy one of those awful circular multi size spoke keys and hope one of the slots fits?
I have a spare Park SW-0 so might just file it out till it fits.

Shimano uses 3.75mm nipples at the rim:
