  • Yeah I've always sacrificed a bit of protection in exchange for a quiet ride, but then again I'm a pootler.

  • Leather washers

  • @aglet I did do this in the past, minus the glue and it worked itself free eventually. Might try with a strong adhesive. Loving the mono-stay shot, looks like a nice bike.

@withered_preacher hopefully if I make a neat enough job it shouldn't sacrifice protection too much. I'm not exactly Robert Förstemann either, it's only for the touring bike mind.

@turkish I do have rubber washers fitted at the moment but pretty sure the noise is coming from the contact on the chainstays as they flex. Having said that might get leather washers to totally eliminate this. Cheers

  • I had an annoying squeak / creak coming from the chainstays (some sks longboards). Creaked on every pedal stroke and was worse if I was sat down. I just squeezed the mudguard by hand to give a mm of space either side. Has stayed put and sorted the noise.

(This was after I had removed, regreased, and reinstalled the seatpost, saddle clamp, saddle rail, pedals, crank arms, chainset bolts in search of the offending creak...! Ffs).

I've already had the BB out and regreased everything, a squeaking Brooks saddle doesn't help either :|

  • Are fancy pdw mudguards really that much better than the regular options or should I stick with sks longboards?

For my CdF commuter/winter/gravel bike. 700x35mm tyres + disc brakes. Priorities are probably ease of fitting and preferably black. Any other good options?

  • Have a look at Specialized Dry-Tech fenders - fitted to my Genesis after I recovered it. The PDWs that has been on there had been ripped off by the oiks who nicked it. I think the new ones are at least as good.
