Having said that the rule of thumb I use, is tyre width plus 10mm: I'd want 48mm guards with your tyres or only fit 32 mm tyres under the PDW.

So I fitted the second stay. There isn't space for the mount (and nut) on the inside, at least on my driveside (YMMV as I have an alfine). Stacked two up on the outside and it works well enough, bit of pushing against the rack but nothing major. Might put a piece of rubber/insulating tape in there to stop it rattling/rubbing/fretting too badly.
Will report back as to whether it stop the rattling in the rear mudguard, hopefully it has as it spoils an otherwise quiet bike!

Just noticed my newest pair of GB mudguards came undrilled whereas an older pair came pre-drilled. Anomaly or did they change this?
-
• #2681
I think it changed a few years ago, but it may also depend on which seller ordered them, I think they can spec them out to a degree. I know at least one of my sets came undrilled and I didn't mind, made it possible to put the stays in the strongest position for my frame.

Unrelated GB mudguard issue, but I've found my rear mudguard has cracked almost all the way across just to the rear of where I have bolted it to the brake bridge. I only noticed it part way through an audax over the weekend, but will get more pics when I check the damage.

Failure might be related to initial installation tension.

That's what I thought too. I'll let you know what I find.

Carbon forks (specifically Kinesis Tracer disc forks) and Sheldon's problem solver nuts. Will I need the 32mm front one or the standard one?

I'm having an annoying issue with my mudguards. I got these SKS ones. After about a year of riding, I've basically lost all the black bits and the screws that hold the wires into the mudguards are gone.
Anyone have a handy DIY hack to get the wires to sit still through the holds of the actual mudguard??

Get some replacement nuts, trim the stays so that they don't protrude out the back end, and clamp down with the aid of removable loctite.

Any idea where to purchase these nuts? What are they called exactly?

Around here, sure, but I'm in N.A.

Jeeps. £8 for a few bolts?!?
(thanks for the link!)

Drill your own then.
They're a fairly specialized product. -

Widest easily available full guards for 26"?
LadyLiz just got a Troll currently running 2.3 Kiniptions but would be nice to be able to cover larger if needs be. -

I've got spare mudguard bits and bobs: send me a PM detailing what you need.

Oh no! I guess you have to get those!

Ha I'd seen those and suspected that may be the case.
Was hoping there was a cheap pair without too much side coverage somewhere that I'd overlooked!
Have a pair of bluemels on my commuter that clear my schwalbe snow studs so might offer those up for a test fit first.
£85 for blades only is mad money :/ -

That will do a complete set of mudguards. Even if you need to replace them once a year that's still a bargain to stop the sounds of rattles and keep your feet dry and stop unsightly rooster tails.
Cycling is an inexpensive pursuit but it's not free.

The sizes however give you an idea of what to look for, the Bluemels in 65mm is probably the best you can get before spending more money, however I feel a 700c mudguard may actually provide a bit more clearance if she's sticking with the huge knobby tyres that come with the bike.

Hers was actually built with the 2.3 kiniptions, not surlys tyres. Brixton clearly fiddled with the spec a little over the couple of years it was in the shop(it's the purple one, 2015 model I think?) as there's a few bits that differ from the published spec.
A rough measure puts the kiniptions at 65mm across, hadn't considered a 700c guard.
Object reckons they've got guards in stock that'll clear so might see what they can do when it goes back in a few weeks to have the steerer trimmed and any other snagging jobs.
For now it's gonna have the crud catchers we've got lying around.

Thank you. I already have the mudguards, it's the tyres I don't have.
