  • Didn't enjoy Uncut Gems. Felt for Sandler's character but everything just felt so frantic, it was difficult to get a grip on anything.

  • Superman: Red Son will be out mid march - straight to DVD because a bit niche. Will be picking that one up.

  • Just got round to joker, was fucking hilarious.

  • Watched Parasite again last. As good, if not better than the first time. I was really able to pick up the overall slickness of the movie and the dynamics of all of the characters. Also all der metaphors! I was also very happy because the two people next to me decided that they would narrate the entire film: 'Oh no, is he going to....'- film interrupts one second later with what actually happens.

I had a similarish experience a few days watching A Beautiful Day in the Neighbourhood. I had the full old commentary from the couple behind me. They also employed the full-hand-shovel-face-popcorn-eating tecnique. Then once that was done one of them rested their de-shoed foot on my armrest. Then about 15 min before the firm ended one of them stood up loudly and said "pretty tired - I'm gonna run down and get a coffee". Then that had me thinking about the half-life of coffee being 8 hours and even he gets to sleep early the quality of that sleep will be reduced. He came back in about 13 minutes later without two minutes to go because from what I could ascertain the cinema had turned off their coffee machine given it was almost 11pm. But yeah otherwise, very enjoyable film, despite the goons behind me.

But with Korean film being in the spotlight at the moment any recommendations? The Handmaiden has been on my list for a while now

    To laugh at, not with

  • Actually I thought it was pretty good, maybe a too long, could of lost a bit from the middle.

  • There's some truth in the charges that it's a film playing to the angry Incel mob. Either the director didn't think that through enough or didn't care.

Some of the core comic-book-movie fans are angry with it not being a comic book movie but an art movie snuck into their turf. (As somebody who enjoyed the first Unbreakable film, I don't sympathise.)

Of course, there's some overlap between those two groups, so there must be some seriously conflicted Incels out there.

Surely that would only be the case if he was shown in a positive light in...

  • But with Korean film being in the spotlight at the moment any recommendations?

Do you like adventure horror? Train to Busan and The Host are a lot of fun.

Haven't seen it yet but apparently Burning is very good and obvs Oldboy.

  • The Incels do see it as a positive light.

  • I saw the devil
    Failan

  • I don't think you can trust their point of view on things though. Fight club is a favourite of their's right? That was a good film and the message clearly isn't what most incel morons would take from it.

  • But with Korean film being in the spotlight at the moment any recommendations?

If you like horror, watch "Phone".

  • I don't think you can trust their point of view on things though.

I don't have to. I just have to know what their view is and how some things are going to play to them. You mentioned Fight Club - film makers should be taking lessons from how badly that misfired with a significant mass of toxic men. The same way they should absolutely be paying attention to what happened to the Ghostbusters remake.

A lot of people who aren't Incels have expressed confusion about what kind of message the film is trying to give (personally, I think that if the director had clarity on that, he didn't convey it). The Incels aren't confused about it - and that was entirely predictable.

  • Chan-wook Park movies -
    Lady Vengeance (2005)
    I'm a Cyborg, But That's OK (2006)
    Thirst (2009)

And an early one from Bong Joon Ho-
    Memories of Murder (2003)

  • memories of murder is a top ten film for me!

  • A Tale of Two Sisters
    Park Chan-wook's Vengeance Trilogy

  • Hype!
Loved the comic, turned me into a mild Mark Millar fan.

Will be picking that up as well.

  • Come to daddy

In the history of things escalating quickly, few things escalate as quickly.

Top Michael Heseltine reference as well.

  • Wow, I thought Uncut Gems was going to be a comedy.
    Impressed but stressed.

I'll be the first to admit she isn't really my bag, but I quite like it. Nothing on the Adele/Chris Cornell ones though

  • For some reason I ended up watching The Brothers Grimsby last night (I blame my girlfriend). Obviously it was utter dog shit but I'd almost recommend watching it. I've truly never seen anything like it, an utter assault on the senses.

  • I've been meaning to watch bone tomahawk for about a year but never quite felt in the mood. Glad I waited until valentines day, alone after a bottle of wine and a joint, never been more aroused in my life.
