Stupidly attempted a 200 on Saturday for RRtY. Rear brake managed to seize in the housing about 5 miles in and then ended up in a hedge due to ice about 15 miles later. Lesson learned, don't mess about with ice. Was an absolute nightmare trying to get home in one piece.

I always find it amazing that despite knowing the risks I still find myself thinking about chancing it. Not good when older etc. 99.99% ice free still leaves enough ice to be trouble. I have a shallow metal tray with water in it on the floor outside shed. Any ice whatsoever then no ride despite what any forecast says. Fell off with scars to show it when I was much younger. Cold but very dry day. Until I passed someone washing their car.

That's a really great idea, I think I'm going to have to steal that.
Fortunately I've never experienced icy roads like that before and the only real thing that was damaged was my ego. I think the conditions look a bit better this weekend so I will give it another whack.

That's why I went for a walk on Sat and did turbo on Sunday. I can fuck my season up myself - I don't need ice doing it for me.

That's essentially what I said to my pal after pulling myself out of the hedge.
Adam Kinsey told us about this event after ALPI4000. I've had it in my calendar since so if I can't do LEL this could be a neat alternative. Never ridden in any of the countries it visits. It's pretty flat too and although pretty broken, I'm still a unit though the missus is going to have to do some training to cope :)
Good road surfaces? You mean I can do a road ride with less than 50mm tyres? What a novelty!
