A screen is a massive air brake. Seven shaped cars have appalling aero, little is quicker up to 100mph, but beyond that if you have a screen a hot hatch will be as quick.
Taking off the screen improves things massively, but you do have to wear a lid. A bee or stone in the forehead at speed isn't pleasant.
I get the aero considerations, BUT its a seven shaped thing and at 200bhp (rover V8) I had issues with traction never mind speed. With the 7for me, it was never a speed thing. Everything seemed faster as I felt open to the elements even with a screen and felt like a racing driver in a cock pit. To me it was the cornering ability not the straight line speed well, once you sort out the weigh split round the car.
Never mind a bee or a stone, rain at speed hurts and can leave bruises.
