Excellent technique. It must only be possible though where there is very little clearance between the rear while and seat-tube. Am I correct? I'm sure my Pompino would not permit this.

Yeah with the wheel in anything but the absolute end of the dropouts it locks fine like this, dead easy. The electrical tape is to keep the paint attached to the bike, its a really nice finish, however its very brittle, others using bike racks tend to smack their locks around, just protecting against that really.
