I forgot to say, when finishing a wheel you need to decide whether to favour making the rim perfectly true, or perfectly balancing the spoke tensions.
With a wheel that uses a rim brake, especially a front wheel, I favour making the rim as straight as possible. These wheels will never see a brake so they don't need to be super true, so I will favour balancing the tension.
