For racing a 42 sprocket makes no sense at all. In fact as Ed aluded to above 11 speed doesn't seem that compelling. I'd happily run nine or eight if
a) I could have the shifters I wanted b) I could use a type 2 mech c) It was much cheaper than ten speed
a and b aint gonna happen though
