Thought It was about time I put up a current projects thread..
Before I get to that, I haven't actually introduced myself on the forums after a few years of lurking and some activity in the classifieds. I'm Jack, a uni student from souf london that has a passion for bikes, riding bikes and racing bikes.
I live locally to Herne Hill so I train and race down their regularly (I'm a VCL member), and for the last two seasons I've done quite a bit of road racing at Palace, Hillingdon and Hog Hill. I am by no means amazing but have a goal to get myself into the 3rd cat this season after just trying to finish races last season. Aside from that I also ride my bike to Epsom (art college) everyday (about a 24 mile round trip) so I get in quite a bit of time commuting as well.
So, about a year ago I got my hands on this now discontinued Kinesis KR510 frameset. I got it for quite a deal, but even for the original price it would've been quite a steal for the specs. Frameset weight is about 1.5kg which is very reasonable for the price. The tubing specs and geometry are suited for the type of riding I do mostly - closed road crits/maybe some Surrey League races this year and mid length road rides. Its not the best looking frame out there and tbh I think the spf tube shapes look a tad too funky but Its got nice carbon wishbone seat stays and a very good full carbon fork (380g).
Heres a few pics, showing some of little paint chips and scuffs that I will probably fill with some white nail varnish.
I rode it last season with a mix of 105 and Ultegra, Zipp bars, a Thomson Elite seatpost, Deda Zero stem and an old specialized saddle. I also had some shitty 'fake carbon' Ambrosio brake calipers and was using old Ultegra 9 spd levers with the rest of the 10spd group which I do not recommend, but at the end of the day I just rode what I could afford and the levers were some of my dads old ones. For this season though I wanted to spec it higher and spend a little more dosh.
I managed to get my hands on a Dura Ace chainset on ebay at a very good price - used but hardly.
Also got some ultegra levers, brake calipers and a 105 cassette which I'll be using in the interim.
Need to get my hands on a few details though > some sort of chain catcher, a new stem (probably thomson to match the post), new top cap and spacers and some ti bottle cages as well as some tiny details such as a brake cable adjuster bolt for the front brake and a new gear mech hanger.
Not sure if I will use the 105 rear mech I already have or buy a new 6700 Ultegra one and as for the front mech I've already got an ultegra one which needs a thorough clean before I can fit it.
Wheelset will hopefully be H+son TB14 rims laced to Dura Ace hubs with Sapim cx rays and alloy nipples. Tyres will hopefully be Challenge Criteriums with the gumwall as it will compliment the hard anodised rims and the greys and whites of the bikes frame set and components. Saddle will be a Fizik Arione which I should be buying soon. Will try to update this thread as soon as some progress is made.
