The geo of this is as close to my Serotta as I can get it- the BB has had to come up to prevent pedal strike but apart from that it's pretty much 1:1.
So I'd like to duplicate the stem height, but this will be an ahead stem setup.
Once you've removed the stack that a traditional threaded headset gives you then you have a gap to fill.
If you slam the stem (best for aesthetics) then you end up with the front end much lower than with a slammed quill stem, due to the lack of headset stack.
So- you can either increase the length of the headtube and slope the top tube, have a Scoble of spacer, or the aforementioned faux quill.
Or- my currently preferred option of a "dropped toptube" as Dario puts it.
Are you using an integrated upper headset bearing? A trad external Chris King bearing cup on top would still give a reasonable amount of stack.
Anyway, there are head tube extensions and head tube extensions. Some of the Pegoretti ones are a bit extreme, it doesn't have to be quite that much. The difference between, say, a 2-Nut and a NoThreadSet would probably be less than a centimetre or so, no?
