I cant help as I am already owned by 2 cats but for those who don't have a garden - don't let this put you off. if you have a decent sized property then the cats don't actually have to go out. I know this is a bit of a topic of debate but mine don't go outside - I could let them even though we have no garden we are basically living in Victoria park, but face a busy-ish road and they would probably get hit by the #8 bus which would be quite upsetting.
they are fine with it. but you cant really start letting them outside then get cold feet and then keep them in as that would be quite unfair..
so if you don't have a garden that shouldn't be a deal breaker. you should be prepared for the little shits to ruin all your furniture/rugs/break the decent china etc..
