Not sure to be honest. It was a good few years before it totally went away (like I say, I always remember the odd sneeze and a bit of niggly eye itching every now and then).
I'm pretty sure the severity of it dropped off pretty quickly though. Antihistamines are the way forward. The doc can prescribe stronger ones than you can buy in the shop if needed.
