This is my (late) gramps bike. It was custom built in image of one of our portuguese great cyclists (Joaquim Agostinhho), for my gramps, and assembled back in the day by JA's mechanic. As it happens with any amateur cyclist pieces get worn, get broken, and they get replaced, more often than not by the part we can afford or is handy at the time, as long as it gets the job done.
I remember him leaving in the mornigs for his rides on this after eating a bowl of hot soup in the morning while I ate my cereal and watched cartoons. He always did say I'd inherit the bike :')
I decided, in a sort of homage to him, to restore the bike to the best of my abilities, and so it started my quest for beauty and function with my Project Grandpa.
For the past 2 years, most of it quite skint, I gathered what parts I could from the original groupset he had on it, Dura Ace series 7200, all parts I gathered were NIB/NOS. For 2 years and more money spent that I can sum up (or wont ahah) I've got the girl up and runnning, although still not up to my "standards" for a finished project. No regrets.
Still not complete, but she aches for the road. The bike itself is to small and too short for me, so I've loaned it to my dad. He had a grin on his face of undescribable happiness, and held some tears. Made me a very happy (30 year old lol) boy for an instant.
In the weekend, weather permiting I will try to take some decent shots of her to show-off a bit (ego demands it ahah)
Still to change:
BB: Not totally sure on model, but is one of the parts to be exchanged as I suspect gramps changed the axle to fit the triple he had on the bike.
Breaks: Need/want to get 7200 silver breaks to match rest of set, and do need a shorter reach as the black ones have too much (still breaks nicely though ^^)
Stem: Want DA 7200, with max lenght of 100mm
Shifters: Want a pair of DT DA 7200 (have a pair of these but band on, not for brazes)
Seatpost 25.0mm DA 7200 (if such a thing even exists! which from my research none do)
Saddle: Get a new one, and transfer the one present for my fixed bike (has a nice rat aspect that will go well with it :P)

Last night she got ready to taste the road again.
