If I'm right in thinking the 'beater' was that light coloured Raleigh then I believe you may have a potential career as a racing man. I would be reluctant to start out on a one way trip to Oxford on that machine, let alone there and back with a bag which, judging by its weight, must have contained the kitchen sink. As they say - chapeau!
BTW: I hope it's not impolite to ask, but I can't help but be puzzled by your forum name: the only BMA I can think of is The British Medical Association.
