I've had these hubs for a few years now and have never had this issue. I've changed the bearing myself and off the top of my head it's a simple case of using a 4mm? allen key to take the eccentric outers off then tapping the bearings out using a rubber headed mallet with something else relatively blunt. There is a central axle/spacer type thingy between both bearings but nothing complex at all. I'm surprised the shop have swerved looking into it.
