On a weekend, it was meant to be in September but I haven't done any organising yet, so maybe October. I want to do it before it gets too cold and dark though.
depending on the time and day snake pass (a57) can get quite traffic heavy. doesn't lend itself to riding in a group.
if you're thinking of doing it over a weekend i'd be up for joining you for the first part.
It would be a weekend. Hmm, I don't really like the idea of it being full of traffic, the whole point is to go somewhere where there isn't much! Thanks for the offer, will keep you updated.
What's the little detour on the Snake Pass descent? Instead of that I'd recommend heading up the edge of Ladybower so you can see the dam - there's a tea shop with icecream, cake and loads of pet ducks.
Erm, the detour was not deliberate. Thanks for the tip, if I do keep Snake Pass on the route, I'll head to Ladybower. Although I first read it as 'Ladyblower', and am disappointed that it's not called that.
Are you thinking of doing this as a solo tour or some sort of group trip?
What sort of pace are you planning on?
Do you have a ticklist of famous roads you'd like to ride, or would you like to discover some lesser known gems?
Two people - I did a successful 3 day trip in the Lake District with a mate last year, and we're keen to do something similar in the Peaks.
I've no idea about pace really. We're not real cyclists - old steel bikes, no lycra, not part of any clubs or anything. I'd like to take it fairly slow, firstly because I'll have no choice as I'm incredibly slow up hills, and secondly because I'd like a good pub lunch. I was hoping with those routes there'd be time to fit train travel in and not be too pressed for time, although I'm not sure about that? It is pretty hilly after all.
I have no idea about famous roads and no particular preference for them. I'm looking for not much traffic, some demanding hills (not insane though - we deliberately didn't do Hardknott Pass when we went to the Lakes and I'm pleased we didn't) and some lovely views. I got this route from adapting and shortening one I found online - http://ridewithgps.com/routes/2482542
I rode this recently. http://www.strava.com/activities/76885553 snakes pass was fine early on a Friday morning. The route was based on being able to ride both snakes and winntas pass in a loop. If people have a better loop out of Manchester I would be interested.
Cheers, I wonder if Sunday afternoon will be a lot worse than Friday morning.
Wow, great response everyone.
