Hey Dan,
Yeah I saw the Sheldon Brown site (amazng resource!). It lists the spacing as 3mm for Shimano 8sp and 3.1mm for Campag 8sp (0.1mm should be OK I'm guessing).
Thing is - I can't really afford to buy an 8sp cassette then find out it won't work - I'm currently putting together my first ever geared build, learning a lot but spending way too much in the process.
