    Just make a decision on how much workable space you want, then decide on which RAID scheme, from that you can calculate the desired number of 2TB disks... and finally, within each QNAP drive capacity just shoot for the most recently released one.

    Job done.

    Your hardest question is going to be RAID 1, or RAID 0 for 2 disks, or go to RAID 6 for 4+ disks.

    I'd skip RAID 5 nowadays, the drive capacities are such that the game is now that if a drive fails it's extremely likely another will fail soon after. So RAID 5 isn't as safe as you imagine, but if you insist on going RAID 5 then purchase your 2TB disks from multiple online providers so that they are all of different manufacturing batches.

    I have a 6 drive QNAP and am dead happy with it.
