Don't go to XP. Get Win 7 at least. Windows 8 is faster and there are ways around its annoyances but I still like Win7. 8.1 might be ok if you can wait.
Can you remove the hdds and take it to a computer recycling place? They might refurb it for the 3rd world or something.
