New chains are sprayed with some crap anti-rust stuff. This is Not a lubricant. Clean the chain and apply a decent chain lube. I like the finish line wet one. but during the winter salty water seized the chain overnight so i drown it in 3 in 1 oil. messy but it worked. kept applying it every time the chain didn't look wet.
