Well...I took the wheel off and spun it in my hand. Felt ok. Strange...
...put it back on and that tick came back again. Took it off, checked forks and mudguards nothing there.
Spun it again and caught a glint in the sun. Turns out some metal wire managed to get into my tire, but not puncture it (was in about 1 mm and then stopped) and as it was about 10 cm long it flopped about and caused the tick.
Ah well, oops. But at least I don't need to buy new bearings now :)
