I wanted mudgards at some point. I was thinking of white vintage Bluemels, I have a pair on my Hodsworth in France, they are great. But I did not find any for the money I was ready to spend. I nearly bought red Bluemels from a friend but I decided against at the end, I thought it would be too much... Now I don't now. I like it like this, but there are gaps that could be filled, you are right...
27X1-1/4 wheels could be an option, but only if I could source 27X1 tyres, as 27X1-1/4 would not go between the chainstays, or just about.
I don't think 700c don't look undersized / out of proportion on the bike, considering that on the picture, the tyres are only 20c... fitting 23c, or even 25c might be a good move... I'll see when I get the intended wheelset ready (the one on the picture is only temporary)
