LBS vs Online stores

I did not ask them to fit a new BB. For all they knew I wanted the BB removed before hanging the frame on the wall. They did not say they were going to face it or check the threads. Perhaps - had they wanted to offer good customer service - they should have asked whether I wanted it faced, recommended that I had it faced, and offered a discount if facing was not right for me or if I refused to take their advice. Quoting a high price on the assumption that it should be done seems like poor customer service.

If you're paying to get the BB removed, they'll do the facing and tapping if necessary and it won't cost more.

You won't get a discount for not getting it faced/tapped.

That's like asking the mechanic to take the wheel and tyres off so you can fix the puncture yourself and expect it to be cheaper that way.
