Zipp valve extenders intended mode of operation is to undo the locking nut on the valve stem, then screw the extender onto the valve.
The locking nut is therefore unlocked all the time.
I had these on my old wheels, can't say I ever noticed them going down faster than any other butyl-tubed wheelset.
