seriously, I don't get you guys. it might not work with all multi tools out there, but hear me out:

1. buy the tool with the most multis
   
2. undo two main bolts and take apart
   
3. put unneeded pieces in the drawer
   
4. rearrange remaining pieces so both sides are same width
   
5. reassemble quite possibly with shorter main bolts though.

ah maybe - with a bit of tinkering and/or using some sort of spacers you could get away with that.
I was thinking more about 'adding' new tools instead of removing though, on a 'mix and match' basis if that makes sense
