As much as I love the idea of tape, I'm let to believe that tape isn't allowed at the track, which to me suggests that it isn't quite as safe as the old glue. Also I'm under the impression that the pros still swear by glue... just saying.
Tape is not allowed but that rule was probably made back when tape was first introduced, I'm sure with more modern tapes it can be just as safe as glue.
