Re your trainers Sparky, get some elastic laces, then your trainers just slip on and off easy without the faff.
Get a towel, a nice garish thing, and lay next to your bike, with your trainers on.
This will give you a bit more of a focus when trying to find your exact transition area among lots of others, though you will need a rough idea (count which rack you are on, try and use a tree, or sponsor panel to get your approx area) of where you are.
Put a gel and some water down as well, in case you need something to get you through the second run.
Tri bars are fine, but try and use them for a good few rides before the race. Also, try and do some run to bike and bike to run practise, it feels horrible the first few times but you will get used to it. I do mine on the turbo as you can pretty much set up a transition area how it will be on race day.
You can clip your shoes into your pedals and use elastic bands to keep them in place, but if you think this will cause you problems, then just put your cycle shoes on and run through transition with them on. Loads of people will do this and it is less faff.
Give me a shout if you think of anything else, I have made loads of transition errors from my races so can try and stop you doing the same.
