• Ha, we haven't had a mosque thread for a while, but I suppose they pop up now and again quite naturally.

I don't see how the OP 'imposes' anything on anyone when he/she asks

I was wondering if other forum people believed in miracles or the power of prayer / meditation / positive thoughts. [...] So if you believe that prayer and positive thoughts can make a difference to peoples lives, please post it here.

If you don't like it, put the thread on ignore (as I will be doing in a moment, not necessarily because I don't like it but because I don't have time for it).

But religion is not open to the possibility of being wrong. Belief in God is unfalsifiable. the idea that you can heal someone through prayer cannot be tested. I dont take a moral stand on religion, I dont mind what people believe, but it is based on faith, not observable evidence.

I'll only say this one thing, which is that genuine faith is very much open to the possibility of being wrong. There's a long tradition of doubt about God, and if you meet someone who claims to be absolutely firm in their faith, you've probably just met someone who doesn't have faith but certainty, which is a rather big difference. :) This would appear to apply to a lot of people who claim to be religious, but I think we shouldn't jump to conclusions about the nature of the OP's faith.

Apologies for ducking out like this, but these topics tend to get me too interested. :)
