In the (somewhat ridiculous) example I gave it's not harmless to us if we were the truck driver or bystander.
It's very hard to live a life in which your footprint of hurt and harm towards others is as small as it could be, but I do not necessarily buy that holding such beliefs is a harmless thing which minimises such a footprint.
And that's with me trying to ignore the wider questions around religion itself, this is with me trying to reason based solely on the belief of prayer and miracles (sans-religion).
