I studied Aeronautical Engineering at university and I've worked in aviation for 13 years since, I'd hope I do have something of a clue. Would you care to explain how the Buran wasn't a knee-jerk reaction to the US space shuttle program, how it wasn't a tracing-paper, me-too copy of the US shuttle? Incidentally, 'agrigultural' isn't necessarily a criticism. Soyuz isn't the most advanced technology in the world, but it's sturdy and reliable, as you point out.
