What's the advantage? I imagine the weight is about the same (smaller bolt + nut vs larger bolt sans nut). It can only weaken the shaft, I imagine? Pulling out is much more likely. It doesn't sound easy (going on Louis' post above). What am I missing?
I guess you can do it on a pole without a taper...
