    The fitting issue is more to do with the width of the stem's clamp area rather than the imnternal diameter of the clamp. As with regular drops, you need to swivel the stem round so that the thinnest part of the clamp will allow for the curve. With compacts, you can't swivel it round the final curve because there isn't clearance for the shaft of the stem to swivel back around, it just hits the drop part of the bars, rather than clearing it like it would on normal bars.

    The clamp width on my pearl is 30mm, and the clamp width on a Cinelli 1a is 5mm wider than that, so I can't see it working... although I think the Cinelli's have a shorter shaft than the Nittos, so you never know...

    A good solution is the 3T Motus as it is a 1" quill stem with a removable faceplate.
