I never got tired of messing my Grandad's hair up. He was quite fastidious about his appearance - sharp shave, then a heavy application of Brylcreem to give a parting you could slice cheese with. A good ruffle up of what he took pride in always made me laugh, but most of all him. He pretended to hate it, but of course he didn't.
We'd also talk for ages about football, England in particular. He was a nifty player in his time. He'd sit in the freezing kitchen borne of a frugal Geordie smoking the cheapest cigarettes to be found in Asda right down to the filter while deriding every England team/new player, claiming they're all 'rubbish', or 'finished', or 'useless'. Of course he was right. I loved that.
