I think the QuickShift stuff happened in the shifter rather than the mech and I am running a QS front mech with a non-QS groupset successfully. I have another bike with no front mech adjustment and it's a pain to get it right just by pulling the cable and tightening the clamp, but it works fine when I get it right.
